Metal Injection Molding (MIM): Design Guidelines
  • Wall Thickness
To avoid distortion, wall thickness of MIM parts should not exceed 5 mm.
  • Constant wall thickness
Differing wall thickness within a part may lead to distortion or warpage.
  • Avoid sharp corners and edges
Sharp corners and edges may cause sink marks.
  • Avoid sharp thickness transitions
  • Design one side flat
If possible, one side of the component should be designed flat in order to place the part. This will improve the injection process.
  • Draft angles
To improve mold release, it is recommended that draft angles be designed.
