Lean Enterprise

The Lean Enterprise (LE ) model, developed by GKN plc in 2003, uses a system of tools and measures to facilitate and track continuous improvement throughout the GKN Sinter Metals organization. Improvement tools, similar to 5S and Visual Management, provide a common approach for manufacturing and support operations. And, a common set of performance indicators is focused on several key items such as Not Right First Time and Value Add Per Person.

Each GKN site has at least one designated Site Continuous Improvement Leader (SCIL) to provide focus and leadership to the location. A comprehensive, 46-week leadership training program involves all GKN divisions and is designed to ensure that site leaders have the necessary skills to coordinate and lead continuous improvement activities.
